Preparing Your Car For a Profitable Sale

Unless you are thinking about keeping your old vehicle and passing it on to someone else, you will eventually need to sell it. Theres many ways to sell your car, but first lets consider the preparation of your vehicle prior to advertising or trading.

Presentation is the key factor
The first thing one should consider when selling an old vehicle is how you can sell it for more money. The technique, which most people seem to overlook, is to simply make it look absolutely fantastic!

This does not mean just washing and vacuuming it, although thats a excellent start. It is the overall preparation and detailing that counts. This is a well-known secret of most used motor dealers.

You would be surprised to see the condition of some of the vehicles they purchase, but after a few hours in the detailing shop you wouldnt think it was the same car! The best advice to anyone selling his or her car, is to have a professional car detail carried out. This will cost you around the $200 mark and it will be money well invested.

It will, in effect, save you hours of hard work trying to do it yourself with nowhere near the same result. This alone will add hundreds of dollars to your vehicle, particularly when selling via the newspaper.

I know of people who have had their car detailed and fallen back in love with their car deciding not to go ahead with the sale.

Once the detailing has been completed you should make sure any small flaws are repaired. It is also important that you have the service books and any relative mechanical history at the ready, as this is now becoming a major factor when buying or selling a used vehicle. If a service is due or near due, make sure you have it done prior to selling. This will give a prospective buyer a good idea of how well you have kept your vehicle.

What is your car really worth?

Before you start selling your vehicle, either privately or to a dealer, you must know its market value. There is nothing worse than advertising your vehicle with a highly inflated price tag.

One way to find out the approximate value of your vehicle is by studying the motor section of your local newspapers, which will give you a reasonable guideline. Another way is to look in dealership yards to see what price similar vehicles are being sold for, but you must remember these vehicles have margins built into them to cover the dealerships operating costs and over-stock.

Alternatively, the internet can provide a wealth of information on vehicle pricing. This is only web-based information and is generalised, so it does not give you accurate pricing on your own vehicle because of the specific condition and accessories fitted.

Sites where you can gather this type of guidance are the individual dealership web sites and vehicle pricing-guide sites such as www.redbook.com.au and www.glassguide.com.au

This data is only to assist you in making a qualified and rational decision when buying or selling your vehicle. Remember, these sites are to be used only as a guideline, they are not entirely accurate as they do not take into consideration the individual buying or selling parameters within the different states.

There are always variations to the rules about pricing, so you should follow your intuition when setting a price and be sure to leave room for negotiating in your asking price. Your starting price should be higher than the price for which you really want to sell your vehicle.

One way to keep a thorough track of your finances is to record every expense, as you make it. You might like to keep a notebook and jot things down as they occur, or the more technologically advanced amongst you might prefer to start a spreadsheet on the computer. Either way, making sure that you’re informed at all times of exactly where your money is going will allow you to focus more precisely on areas of expenditure where you might be able to save. Being informed about insurance is one way in which you might be able to save yourself some cash as there are many different aspects to this indispensable expense.

It has recently become apparent that the car insurance industry is one of the latest to be affected by the recession and, of course, this means that we will be seeing an increase in premiums this quarter. In light of the credit crunch there are a few important questions that you should definitely be asking, as regards your car insurance. Most importantly, you need to make sure that if you were to have a crash your financial security would not be compromised. The Uses of the GPS

The GPS is used to help you find locations so that you will not get lost. This is pretty much the simplest definition to describe a GPS. There is much more to a GPS than just finding the destination of your location and that is why many people enjoy the GPS. These are some examples of the uses for a GPS:

1. When you are traveling you can find hotels, restaurants, emergency stations and other important places while on your journey.

2. Obviously you can find a direct route to where you are headed and get exact instructions on how to get there.

3. When there are things that cause your route to be changed such as road work or roads closed then the GPS will let you know and give you an alternative route.

4. Many times people who are traveling in bad weather appreciate knowing the condition of the highway ahead of time.

5. The GPS will give you warnings on weather conditions, road conditions, and often will help you select an alternative route or advise you to get off the highway for safety sake.

6. The GPS was first used by the military to help keep the unit on the right route during desert storm so it is capable of helping a caravan of people who are traveling to stay together and not get lost.

The GPS is guided by satellites that are placed in the sky for the convenience of the user to enable you to be able to keep up with directions no matter where you travel.

Now that you know what the top 6 reasons are when it comes down to the uses of a GPS, I’m going to show you can find the best deals when it comes to buying a portable GPS navigator for your automobile.

With so many GPS devices on the market today, it’s hard to pick out the one you want. I made it easy and put together a top 10 list, which you can find at the end of this article. I was able to put together this list by reading reviews, getting opinions from others, and factoring in the price. Some many GPS devices out there have different options, sizes, and colors. It’s going to be hard to choose one.

The first thing you want to do is consider the options. What kind of options do you want? Do you want a luxury one that shows you traffic and more? Do you want one that just tells you where to go? If you want something simple, I would get a simple one that just shows you where your final destination is. It’s never smart to get one that’s cheap, because you’re going to get what you pay for.

When it comes down to your final decision, make sure you look at options, the size, and reviews online. If the GPS is too expensive, look at a lower end unit, but always make sure it gets good reviews. Without the reviews and good support, you may buy a dud.

Truck Tractor Trailer Drivers Save – Fuel Costs

Professional tractor trailer drivers how do you make and continue to make those savings as you drive down and plan your routes across the USA and Canada? Remember that saving continue to grow. A penny saved is more than a penny saved in this day and age. They all add up- and even more so today in 2009.

In today’s trucking environment it is worth more than considering because those who succeed take tight control of all their expenses and factor in every single penny into their profit and loss equations. They use fuel efficiency tactics and take smart fuel purchasing measures,

What are some of these fuel efficiency tactics that you can easily employ? First of all stands “idle reduction”. It is said that an idling truck burns nearly one gallon of diesel fuel per hour. Reduce unnecessary idling and it is generally estimated that you can save $ 3,000 in fuel costs per trailer a year.

Next in line comes the science and art of improved aerodynamics. Improve the aerodynamics of a typical line haul trailer by 15 percent and you can could cut out your annual fuel use each and every year by more than 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel.

Improved freight logistics can also come into play. The use of “improved logististics” can reduce the miles that a truck drives empty. Eliminating the 15 % of a line haul truck’s empty miles and you can save an additional thousand of dollars annually. Along with this saving add in automatic tire inflation systems and single wide tires and you are really on a roll. In calculating the benefits of automatic tire inflation systems retrofitting a line haul truck with such an automatic tire inflation system can save you more than considerable gallons of fuel each and every year as well as save expensive tire wear and maintenance. Similarly by specifying single wide base tires when purchasing and ordering a new combination truck from a truck dealer can well save $ 1,000 immediately and reap annual savings each and every year of two percent or even more.

It can be said that even highly experienced drivers can boost their skills with driver training aimed at raising fuel economy by 5 percent or even more. Continual and ongoing training is always a good thing. You never can stop learning new tips and tactics when it comes to being fresh on the road. Cutting that fuel use by 5 percent further can save hundreds of dollars in fuel costs as well as cutting eight metric tons on carbon dioxide spewed into the atmosphere each and every year. Along with training using low viscosity lubricants can be a most wise choice when it comes to fuel economies. When used in a long haul truck, synthetic engine and drive train lubricants can improve fuel economy by three percent, again saving more than 500 gallons a year.

Consider and think of the benefits of intermodal shipping. Intermodal freight transport can be said to combine the best attributes of both truck and rail shipping. Over long distances using intermodal shipping can cut fuel use by as much as 65 % that is compared to truck only moves.

Lastly two most basic and standard means of saving fuel and driving costs known well to every trucker on the road – although not always employed 100 percent of the time. These of course are firstly reducing highway speeds and weight reduction. It has been well proven that a line haul truck with 90 % highway miles that reduces its top speed from 70 to 65 miles per hour cuts its fuel bill and costs substantially. By reducing only 3,000 pounds from a line haul truck, simply by using and employing lighter weight components that smart trucker can well save fuel and costs of up to 500 gallons of diesel fuel a year.

When driving in today’s tight, if not difficult trucking business environment keeping costs in line is key. Fuel costs may go up. They may go down. Just as cost control is important to your driving success you can always count that a penny saved in the trucking and transport industry is more than a penny earned.

Car Emergency Preparedness – When the Going Gets Tough!

If you own a vehicle, as most of us do these days, it is important to keep an emergency survival kit in it at all times. It should be kept someplace where it can be easily accessed (perhaps under the front passenger seat). Since you are usually located within close proximity of your vehicle, you can easily gain immediate access to your emergency supplies in a disaster situation.

Many types of disasters can strike while you are in your car – snow or ice storms in winter, floods in spring, and hurricanes, tornados or lightning storms in summer and fall. Your survival will depend on how well you have prepared ahead.

Just like a home emergency survival kit, every car emergency kit should contain the basics – water, food, shelter, warmth and first aid for one person (or family) to survive for 72 hours. Basic tools for car repair and maintenance should also be included. When you create your emergency car kit, you can personalize it to your own needs. You may need to add an extra pair of glasses, baby or pet items or prescription medications.

Your car survival kit should be in a backpack or bag small enough to fit in your car. It should include:

• Food (granola bars, dried fruit, crackers, etc. – avoid items that will melt or spoil quickly) and water for 72 hours – keep all items well sealed
• Blankets (wool is best but if it is too itchy try a solar blanket) or a down sleeping bag
• Hat (most heat is lost through the head), scarf, mittens (best) or gloves, boots (extra clothing}
• First-aid kit – including personal medications
• AM/FM radio and extra batteries or hand crank type (no batteries required)
• Candles and waterproof matches or a lighter
• Flashlight and spare batteries or hand crank type
• Toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper
• Soap and/or hand sanitizer
• Pet supplies and proper documentation (license, immunization records)
• Antifreeze to keep the gas from freezing – can also be used in place of windshield wiper fluid
• Axe or hatchet (a hammer might also be useful)
• Compass and maps
• Type ABC fire extinguisher
• Ice scraper, shovel, brush
• Booster or jumper cables, tow chain, traction mats
• Basic car repair kit
• Sand or salt for tire traction – kitty litter also works well
• Duct tape and knife or multi-purpose tool
• Warning lights, road flares or a strip of red cloth to tie on to the car antenna
• Cell phone
• Whistle
• Playing cards, books, games or other items that do not require batteries

You may want to add a few items to be used in case of an accident. Some extra items may include a disposable camera, and a pad of paper and pencil or pen to record the scene and any witness information.

Some personal items might also come in handy. You might want to consider the following:

• Blush, lipstick and mascara
• Razor and shaving cream
• Sanitary knapkins and/or tampons
• Hairbrush or comb

These items are not necessarily essential to your survival but they can go a long way to improving your emotional balance thus helping you to cope with a little more optimism. Let’s face it. The better you feel the more likely you will be able to deal with the situation.

Although it can seem like a daunting task to put a survival kit together, it can actually be a very easy and interesting project. The greatest challenge can be organizing your kit with the least amount of layout of cash. Start by looking around your home for those items you already have. Add a few items each week if you need to buy things. Food and water are the most important items, followed by a blanket or sleeping bag for keeping warm. If you are not interested in organizing your own kit, you can purchase one already made and just add any extra items you want included in your pack.

One important tip: Remember to always let someone know what time you left and what time you expect to arrive at your destination. By taking these precautions, you can prepare your family for an emergency and feel more confident as you travel.

Buying an Automotive Franchise? Do Your Research

When choosing a franchise in the automotive franchise industry there is a particular need for research into your target area. With the automotive franchise industry being such a popular choice and with so many standalone automotive based businesses, you do not want to be setting your new business up in an already saturated market.

Looking at every town, city and even rural area in the country and you will see garages, petrol stations, car washes etc. They are everywhere and in abundance so ensuring that you are choosing the right industry sub sector with a good population density compared with the current automotive businesses in that area is paramount to your success.

So you first step is with identifying your territory and gaining some demographics. Find out the population of your territory, how many households with cars and motorcycles and from local directories you can find out exactly what automotive businesses are already in your area and how many of them. With this in hand you can then begin the selection process.

If for example there are 5 petrol stations, 7 garages, 3 exhaust, tyre and brake service stations and 1 car wash then perhaps a car wash franchise would be the one to look into. As with all franchises location is very important also, a car wash franchise which is not visible and is inaccessible can fail fast however one located on a major through road or next to a supermarket can do very well indeed.

On doing your research and drawing up a short list of franchises which are not only viable but of interest to you too, the next step is to contact the franchisors and begin the selection process. Do not be drawn in by all the glossy packs they give you but instead take a reserved and measured approach to each.

Ask for a list of current franchisees and phone each one to ask how well they are performing, what the franchise management is like to deal with and if all the promises made in the promotional materials were at least close to being realised. By doing all this you can start to weed out the good from the bad and you are a step closer to ensuring you are making the right choice and spending your money wisely.

There is also a matter of franchisee churn / turnover to look into. what franchisee churn is, is the amount of franchisees who have exited the franchise system. A high franchisee churn shows un unhappy and unprofitable franchisee base and should set some noisy alarm bells ringing. If they are leaving in their drives then I suggest you look elsewhere and discard immediately.

With the right research in hand you can make the right choice and automotive franchises are extremely popular and profitable. Do not make the mistake that many people do though and enter a saturated market as this will only lead to disaster and end up with you in debt or severely out of pocket.

All About Metal Carports – Safety of Vehicles

Metal carports are primarily used for the protection of cars against harsh elements. It serves like a portable garage.

Carports are portable devices that act like a garage. It is used to protect cars from harsh elements. During the summer season, cars are exposed to scorching and bleaching from the heat of the sun. During the winter season, they are easily damaged by ice and snow. Strong winds brought about by typhoons can also result to damages when cars are not properly covered.

Carports can also house other vehicles like a boat or truck. Others use it to store other important items also, like bulky inventories. There are wooden carports but metal is more common. Wooden carports are not durable especially when it gets wet often. Metals are more durable and sturdier.

Boating season is naturally dictated by the weather. When it gets too cold or when the typhoon period arrives, many boat owners begin to worry where to store their boats because storage facilities can be quite expensive. The logical solution to this problem is to use a metal carport. Boat owners who already have carports can easily transport their boats into their property which saves time and expense looking for other storage facilities.

When it comes to recreational vehicles, these are quite hefty investments. Certainly, constructing a metal carport where they can be kept away from extreme weather or even from vandals is worth the expense. When you put an RV in a metal carport, it means that you can load it without being bothered by the weather.

Metal and any kind of carport facility, for this matter, can be used in a lot of other ways. It can also be used as a storage area for other things that can no longer be accommodated inside the house. Some carports are big enough to be used as an entertainment area. A few chairs here and there, plus a table, and one can have a place where friends can play bridge, talk, eat or even have a band rehearsal. Just open the sides to let the fresh air in.

Metal carports generally cost less than wooden carports. The cost is not the only advantage of metal over wooden carports. The former is more durable, less prone to cracks, fires, rodent and termite attacks. An owner can still avail of the aesthetics of wooden materials by using Alumawood.

Alumawood is made of aluminum but looks and feels like wood. Metal carports can also be made out of steel or insulated polystyrene foam swathe in steel or in aluminum. Of all the materials mentioned, the cheapest by far is steel.

Galvanized steel normally possesses a zinc coating which prevents corrosive elements such as salt water and acid containing liquids from eating the carport frame. This is one of the most important considerations before deciding what material to use in building a carport. Another is the thickness of the metal. Naturally, the thicker the material the longer the carport will last.

Whatever the type of metal used, a carport can only be good when it is constructed in the most efficient way. Usually, a carport employing a single piece of construction to support the roof is the best. It adds strength to the whole structure and enhances the overall appearance of the carport.

These various kinds of metal carports, whether portable or fixed, differ in the number of people and time needed to build or assemble them. The smaller and less elaborate ones will naturally require less people and time. Fully walled carports will be more expensive to build as compared to half-walled or open metal carports.

Motorists Save Your Money For A New Auto – Inspect For Fluid Leaks

Fluid leaks on automobiles – whether it is your new car, SUV truck or van can be downright frustrating and costly. Few problems on modern vehicles can be downright as pesky and expensive – whether it the alarm and concern that fluid leaks can create to many novice and first time buyers , the unsightliness and damage it may do to the concrete and paving of your driveway or present health risks to family and pets.

Ignoring a slow leak – as many motorists often do – means that for sure that some point that the leak will become inevitably worse. In late model vehicles repairs that were a hop skip and a jump to repair are now crammed into hard to reach, if not inaccessible places on your engine. That means expensive repairs – especially with labor rates at good shops with experienced mechanic help being what they are at most garages now a days. Not only that leave that leak alone and it will not be the repair to the leak itself but you may well be in for additional repairs both within that particular system of your car but also other components and systems as well. For example ignoring a simple fluid leak may result in damage to the radiator pump – an internal expensive to replace device , and as well to the entire engine itself as a result of that radiator fluid getting into the engine oil resulting in poor lubrication to the engine itself and a damaged or seized motor. As a result of ignoring a simple radiator leak you may well be looking to purchase or finance a brand new automotive product.

What to do? Make it a systematic practice – almost a ritual – done on a regular and ongoing basis to make it a practice to periodically inspect the underside of the car as well as the pavement over which the car or other type of vehicle is usually parked. This will provide you both with an early guide to leaks.

Next in the say manner always have your fluid levels checked on a regular basis. It used to be easy. A motorist simply went to his favorite service station for gas or fuel. The attendant would simply ask, or often just proceed, to check the fluids levels routinely. Generally tire pressures would be checked and verified as well. Not so today. In most cases people go to self service gas stations where all most do, or know what to do is to fill up the tank. Sometimes when the auto is at the dealers though an overall check of fluids level is done. This assumes that first the motorist has read and follows the service routine suggested by the manufacturer in the auto service manual and its recommendations. Or it may be that the vehicle is at the service bay at the dealership for major repairs already to negligence in checking fluid levels or investigating fluid leaks long ago, before the damage was done to the vehicle.

If the vehicle is that of another member of the family – say a teenage daughter or son, university student or wife you might well take the maintenance routine as well as overall vehicle inspection duties and responsibilities on yourself as your own personal responsibility. Overall it may well be a cost saving of auto ownership to you both in terms of time, money and distress.

In the end taking the time to check for leaks in your vehicle may well say you the earlier cost of purchasing or financing another or new vehicle down the road.

5 Things That Would Change if You Got a Motorbike

Finally, you have bought the motorbike you have been lusting for months. The days when you used to dream of simply riding your own bike is now over. As you grew tired of your car, the arrival of your new bike is a welcome diversion. With that, there will definitely some changes.

Change #1

With your car, you can safely ride even without fixing your hair or even in your flip flops. You can drive around the town without paying attention to your appearance. You can never do that with your new bike. Gone are the days when you can readily drive on your flip flops and house shirt. Your seat belt will be replaced by a safety helmet. Generally, stricter driving rules apply to motorcycle riders. With that, you need to have a proper driving gear that will not only keep you safe and comfortable but will also make you presentable as you drive more visibly on the road.

Change #2

Riding a motorbike is considered a sport when driven on a particular arena. In this light, you need to be physically ready to keep up with the demands of your new ride. You need to work on your endurance. Motorcycle riding gives you 100% driving; it leaves you to do everything that is concerned about driving, which are mostly physical tasks. With that, you should never drive when you are sleepy and tired for you risk yourself getting caught with an accident.

Change #3

Parking problems? No more! With a more compact ride, finding parking space will be much easier. No more parking tickets, no more racing for parking slots at the mall or any other establishments. Even streets can serve as a welcome parking alternative for motorbikes. Always having a place to park has its advantages. For one, you minimize your chances of getting involved into parking accidents which happens to be one of the common occurrences of driving accidents. Secondly, no more parking tickets. With that, you can easily go about any route you would wish to take. How fun is that?

Change #4

No more multi-tasking. Gone are the days when you used to do other things while driving. Riding a motorcycle will leave you no room to entertain a phone call, send text messages and check your appearance or re-touch your makeup. Motorcycling is all about driving; it demands your full attention. Since it gives you full road command and driving control, it requires you to do more decisions per second and more data processing compared what you experience in other activities. Hence, motorcycling is harder than it seems, it is a tough way of threading the road.

Change #5

Compared to having a car, everything is cheaper with a motorbike except motorbike repairs. It allows you to enjoy huge savings on being fuel efficient and more freedom to choose custom-styling project designs since the job will be way cheaper than with cars. Now, you can easily change your ride’s appearance as often as your eased-up maintenance budget can afford.

Aside from the changes that need to be made on your license and registration documents, shifting to motorcycle rides for your daily commutes gives you more of exciting and interesting road experiences.
